23 December 2016 RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY. On 23 December 2016, Peter B Footitt resigned as Secretary of MRC. Reasons include age (now an Octogenerian) ; still working c20 hours per week in financial services matters; 24/7 Carer for wife; no disabled access at The Ship making it difficult to attend MRC Concerts; the 4 Members of the Committee, who were in Office when he joined as Secretary, all resigned and efforts in 2014, 2015 & 2016 to find replacements, to take on some of their responsibilities, all failed. He will fulfil all the commitments of this session up to sponsoring the New Orleans Shipmates on 3 April 2017. By resigning in December 2016, it should give Members of MRC ample time to appoint a New Committee ready for the Next Session due to start 2 October 2017.
5 December 2016 Concert cancelled - replaced by Dinner Unfortunately Mick Murphy has suffered stroke number 3 and has to restrict all normal activities like driving and clarinet playing. Therefore on 5 December a Christmas Dinner will be held for MRC Members and friends. Cost £20 ( including sponsored Coffee & Mints) Start 6.30 for 7pm dinner.
MRCJP 2015 was another successful summer although we had hoped for a few more musicians to join. All welcome as usual in 2016. Bring your own instruments. During 2016 we have had some themed sessions such as Elvis; Abba; Jelly Roll; Joplin Rags ; and 60's. As always, everyone welcome to come and join in the fun.
25TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER 3 NOVEMBER 2014. Function Room Royal Hotel, Paston Road Mundesley 75 People attended for an excellent meal and music by the MRC All-Stars Octet ( 8 musicians separately invited as a thank you for their support over many years.)
"THE SHIP" After many quick changes of ownership, in 2013 George became Owner and Manager and has made many improvements. The Ship, Mundesley has been the "Home" of MRC since 1989 We understand that in2015 George leased TheShip to a Company for 12 months with an option to purchase which is likely to be exercised. Then there is likely to be changes such as a barrier and pay car park. #hopefully it will include an extension of the "Back Room " .
FINANCE Historically the problem has been ageing and reducing Membership. Jazz Bands do not normally appeal to the young etc. , Financing 7 Live Concerts a Year is always going to be a problem.
Simplistically the Raffle covers a third half of the cost of the Band and MRC has to look for Sponsorship and Donations to cover the rest. Membership increased significantly during 2013 and the plan now is to aim for Sponsorship for all Bands each session and the Raffle to cover all the other club's costs.
CAN YOU HELP? BAND RECOMMENDATION Is there a Band you know that you would like to appear at MRC? Contact: Peter.
DONATIONS No matter how small, they are always Welcome. Contact:- Peter.
SPONSOR BAND Always a big help if you can Sponsor a Band. Support formally acknowledged. Contact:- Peter To standardise this, New Sponsors from 2012 onwards will be asked to pay a fixed amount of £100 upfront. The Band will be paid from this and Club Funds.
JOINT SPONSORSHIP 2/5 Members may wish to club together to sponsor their favorite Band? The first example of this is for the Mick Murphy Quartet on 5 December 2016 where 16 ladies of MRC have joined together to sponsor the Band
RAFFLE PRIZES Suitable Prizes always welcome (including unwanted Christmas Presents) - please bring to concerts or contact Bet or Shirley. . UNWANTED CDs If you have any unwanted Rhythm/Jazz type CDs, please bring them to the Ship and we will try and sell them for £1 each with the proceeds going to Club Funds.
COMMITTEE MEMBER Since September 2013 MRC has been trying to find new Committee Members and hopefully a lady willing to take on some responsibilities to keep MRC going into the future. Unfortunately no offers so far.
MRC JAZZPERSONES. Local amateur musicians and singers, any standard, just enjoy making music for fun. Hopefully a Standby for Booked Bands unable to cope with the Mundesley Winter.(eg. Bands cancelled because of weather Feb 2010: Dec 2010: Feb2011:) "All Musicians bring pleasure - some when they play - some when they stop". "If music be the food of love -I'm not hungry" -Shakespeare. Contact: Peter Official Dates for playing are 8pm -10pm first Monday of the Summer Months, May, June, July, August, Septeber. All Members welcome. Bring your own instruments. However in practise these dates have been very flexible to meet musicians diaries. Percussion items donated include, wood block, cow bell, 8 triangles. There have been several local requests for MRCJP to play, the first being for the RPSO. Original resident drummer was MickyP and then The Rev but hoping for another one soon. Efforts to find an in house Lady Blues Singer from March 2013 onwards and/or a Male Blues Singer from April 2013 was a dismal failure. From 2014 onwards a "volunteer" of any orientation was advertised for but MRCJP seems to be most unfortunate in filling this role. However there has been banjo, clarinet, cornet, drums, keyboard, piano, trumpet and hopefully more to come.
DYSLEXIC MEMBERS If you are dyslexic or have difficulty spelling and would like to receive the MRC Monthly Emails in Progresiv Inglish (e.g. Munzli Rithum Klub meets Furst Munday Munthli) please advise the Secretary. More details on http://progresivinglish.weebly.com/ If only PI can become accepted, it should reduce UK costs by £60Bn per year, (KPMG calculation) and clear the Budget Deficit; speed Children's education by 2/3 years; reduce truancy, crime, prison population etc. that arises because of the absurd irregularities in the English Language. There is an undoubted link between illiteracy and crime. Quite a challenge for a small Rhythm Club?
QUESTION : Why do Dyslexic/Illiterate/Sub Normal people spell our Club Name incorrectly as "Rithum" ?
ANSWER : They take the RI from Rim or Rib; add the TH; and UM from Mum (normally first word a child speaks) ; OR add THUM , finding no logic as why thumb should have a b on the end, unlike DRUM . A Child of 4 can spell Rithum, but it will normally take another 4 years of English Lessons before they can spell it correctly as Rhythm and even more training to spell dyslexic.
EQUIPMENT During 2013 MRC has purchased a Laminator and PA System for Club use.
WILLS WRITTEN -No charge. Members are reminded that they are able to have New Wills, Updated Wills or Codicils produced for no charge. If a Member is completely happy with their New Wills, it is hoped that they will make a Donation to MRC Club Funds.

" MRC Blues" ( MUNDESLEY RHYTHM CLUB BLUES ) Doubt if anyone has heard it played this millennium and the words are obviously dated as it includes "we haven't got a Tesco's". However, just so it is not lost for posterity, here is a reminder of the words. Verse 1, We're from Munzly Mun-des-ley on Sea The Pride of Norfolk The Jewel of the North Sea And we call our song "Munzly Rhythm Club Blues"
Chorus 1 Mun - zly Rhythm Munzly Rhythum Club Blues Oh, Munzly Rhythm, Munzly Rhythm Club Blues We call our song "Munzley Rhythm Club Blues".
Chorus 2 Health and Safety want to ban the Mun-des-ley Blues It's in the Public Interest that the tune's never used, There's no music quite as bad as Mun-des- ley Blues. It's about as useless as my worn out shoes, Munzly, Munzly, Munzly, Munzly, Munzly, Munzly Blues.
Verse 2 We meet first Monday Monthly The Venue is The Ship We often have a great live Band and Music that is quick but not our Song, Munzly Rhythm Club Blues
Verse 3 We've got No Traffic Wardens with Notebook and Flat Cap No Bank ; No Dental Surgeons; No Marks and Sparks, or Vets. But we've got a Song Munzly Rhythm Club Blues.
Verse 4 We haven't got a Tesco's Roundabout or Traffic Lights We haven't got a Bypass No Zebra and No Zoo But we've got a song Munzly Rhythm Club Blues.
Verse 5 Now Don, he plays the cornet. He plays it very well. When Gabriel heard Don blowing He said "Don, Just go to .......... Bacton" STOP ("Bacton?" ) Bacton And play your Song Munzly Rhythm Club Blues
Verse 6 & LAST There's not much Sea Defences We won't be staying long It only takes a Great Big Storm And we will all be gone But we'll leave a Song Munzly Rhythm Club Blues.
